From The Glengarry Farm Finance Team: Rate Cut Probability Continues to Climb
Current Prime: 4.95%, Estimated 5-year fixed rate available to prime borrowers (Aug 29): 5.0%
Next Bank of Canada rate decision: September 17, 2025 (50% chance of a rate cut).
Financing Tip of the Week: The Advance Payments Program Loan Mistake That Could Cost You 40% Interest.
The Advance Payments Program (Cash Advance) offers the lowest-cost operating capital available to farmers. The first $250,000 is at 0.0% interest, and an additional $750,000 is available at Prime minus 0.5%. However, the program can cause a lot of problems for farmers if they don’t pay off balances in full by the due date. Visit https://johnstons.glengarry.ca/post/advance-payments-program-loans-farmers to learn how to deal with some of the challenges of this program.
WEED-IT Information continued
With recent advancements in WEED-IT technology and new research emerging from leading Canadian ag colleges, WEED-IT spot spray systems are proving to be a game-changing tool for Western Canadian farming operations.
Based on real-world use cases and the latest data, we’re seeing impressive return-on-investment timelines:
- 3,000-acre farm: 24–36 months
- 6,000-acre farm: 12–24 months
- 9,000-acre farm: 6–12 months
Our sales team is excited to walk you through the latest developments and how WEED-IT can benefit your farm. Give Travis Albrecht a call today at 1.403.502.6332 for more information or to book a demo.
Please note, there is a lead time for delivery and installation. WEED-IT systems require bracket installation on New Millennium booms, followed by full integration with your existing sprayer.
If you’re aiming to have a WEED-IT system up and running by Spring 2026, we strongly recommend booking your fall demo now. This ensures we can finalize your order in time and get your equipment ready to roll
From the Logistics Team:
Carrier capacity is starting to tighten this week, and while the short week is a contributing factor, it is unlikely we see capacity and rates return to August-levels next week. Shippers should expect bulk rates to increase slightly in FH September as capacity starts to tighten, historically we have seen these increases continue through December before peaking, shippers are recommended to begin planning out 2 weeks when possible. We are currently booking into New Crop and are ready to move loads in AB, SK, MB, BC as well as MT, ND & Idaho! Let us know if you have bulk, dry van or flat-deck cargo to move.
We have trucks in the below areas next week looking for reloads:
| Equipment | Location | Looking to Get To |
| Super-B Hopper | Vancouver, BC | AB, SK |
| Super-B Hopper | Strathmore, AB | SK |
| Super-B Hopper | Lethbridge, AB | SK, MB |
| Super-B Deck | Saskatoon, SK | Anywhere |
