Looking to Hire: Field Based Technical Support Specialist | WEED IT
Location: Saskatchewan, ideally based in Saskatoon
Reports to: General Manager
Role Overview:
The Technical Support Specialist is a field-based, hands-on role responsible for supporting WEED-IT growers and dealers through installation, commissioning, service, training, and ongoing technical support. This position plays a critical role in ensuring customer satisfaction, system performance, and long-term adoption of WEED-IT technology.
As WEED-IT Canada continues to grow, this role also supports sales realization by leveraging strong grower relationships, identifying opportunities, and contributing technical expertise that helps generate referrals and advance new system sales.
This is a hybrid technical + relationship-based role, well suited for someone who enjoys working directly with farmers, solving problems in the field, and being a trusted local expert.
About WEED-IT Canada:
Do you want to be part of a Canadian distribution organization driving innovation in agriculture? Are you self-sufficient, solutions-oriented, and passionate about high-tech farming? If so, WEED-IT Canada wants to hear from you.
As the official subsidiary distributor of WEED-IT products in Canada, WEED-IT Canada is proud to bring Rometron’s market-leading precision technology to Canadian growers. With a strong commitment to innovation and sustainability, we provide sales, support, and service for WEED-IT solutions, empowering Canadian farmers to achieve more efficient and environmentally responsible farming practices.
Rometron has been developing and perfecting WEED-IT technology for over 25 years in close collaboration with farmers worldwide. Its cutting-edge system detects chlorophyll in real time and applies crop protection agents and fertilizers only where needed using proprietary PWM technology. This results in high accuracy, significant savings on chemicals, and improved sustainability. International demand for WEED-IT technology is growing, and we’re building our Canadian team to meet that demand.
We are seeking a Technical Support Specialist who is mechanically and electrically inclined, eager to learn, and motivated to support farmers and dealers across Saskatchewan and beyond.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
As a Technical Support Specialist, you’ll be the go-to person in the field, working directly with growers and dealers to ensure their WEED-IT systems are installed, set up, and running at peak performance. This role is highly hands-on and requires someone who is curious, resourceful, and eager to develop technical expertise. A strong understanding of agricultural spraying systems, along with mechanical and electrical/electronic systems, will be an asset for ensuring accurate installations and effective troubleshooting.
You will:
- Install and commission new WEED-IT systems on farm equipment, ensuring accurate calibration and operation of spraying technology.
- Provide hands-on support to growers and dealer staff in setting up, repairing, and troubleshooting spraying systems in the field.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues and carry out repairs with accuracy and efficiency.
- Train dealers, growers, and sales teams on system operation, maintenance, and best practices.
- Act as the first point of contact for customers requiring technical assistance, both in person and by phone.
- Maintain detailed records of service visits, repairs, and customer interactions to support warranty and performance tracking.
- Proactively share insights and feedback from the field to improve system performance, product development, and customer experience.
- Assist in testing, evaluating, and improving research units and prototypes.
- Travel primarily within Saskatchewan, with occasional travel to other provinces to support installations, service, and training (service vehicle provided).
Skills and Qualifications:
- Mechanical and/or electrical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair technical systems.
- Strong understanding of agricultural spraying systems (e.g., boom setups, nozzle selection, calibration, flow rates).
- Comfortable reading schematics, using diagnostic tools, and working with precision equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and resourcefulness, able to figure things out in the field.
- Self-motivated, independent, and not afraid to be self-taught; willing to ask questions and continuously learn.
- Customer-first mindset with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both farmers and dealers.
- Strong communication skills confident speaking with individuals and groups.
- Willingness to travel extensively across Saskatchewan, with occasional travel across Canada; flexible schedule outside of standard 9–5.
- Interest in agriculture and enthusiasm for applying technology to farming practices.
- Valid driver’s license (clean driving record).
- Ideally based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
WEED-IT Canada is a growing and innovative ag-tech company where you’ll have a high level of autonomy, direct impact on customer success, and the opportunity to grow alongside the business.
Compensation & Incentives:
Base Salary: $75,000 – $95,000 annually, depending on experience, technical capability, and agricultural background.
Bonus:
You will also be eligible to participate in a performance-based bonus plan. In this first year of the plan, the bonus
opportunity is $1500 (less statutory deductions) for every successful system sale to which you materially contributed.
The bonus will be calculated and paid out quarterly. You must be actively employed by WEED-IT at the time of payment to be eligible for the bonus, unless otherwise agreed in writing. This plan will be reviewed and may be amended on an annual basis in WEED-IT’s sole discretion.
What WEED-IT Canada Offers:
- A hands-on role with a high level of autonomy in managing day-to-day field activities, while working collaboratively with leadership, with all sales activity coordinated through the General Manager in a growing ag-technology organization
- Competitive base salary with bonus opportunity tied to meaningful sales contribution
- Company-provided vehicle and laptop for business use
- Monthly cell phone allowance and home office allowance
- Health and benefits allowance provided until a formal group benefits plan is implemented
- RRSP contribution support, with intent to transition to a group RRSP program as the company grows
- Three (3) weeks of annual vacation, plus statutory holidays in accordance with applicable employment standards
- Flexible, results-focused work schedule aligned to the needs of the role and the agricultural season
- Direct impact on customer success and Canadian agricultural sustainability
- Strong collaboration within a small, close-knit team
- Opportunities for growth as WEED-IT expands across additional territories and provinces

Invitation to Special Launch of the SixRing™ TeraCoat™ & TeraSix™ Family of Seed & Crop Stimulants – Limited Supply for Customers of Johnston’s Grain
Johnston’s Grain is pleased to partner with SixRing™ to introduce their unique family of lignin-derived crop & seed stimulants, notably its SeedShield™ seed dressing, and their FieldEdge™ foliar. These are products that have extraordinary molecular performance that will optimize your overall crop health and fertilizer investments and / or minimize the effects of the current fertilizer market volatility via their unique signaling properties. Derived from non-food-based lignocellulosic biomass via the SixRing™ patented processes and methods, the TeraCoatTM &TeraSix™ family of stimulants are uniquely rich in carboxylic acids and phenol groups, only observed in their products. Importantly, they are characterized by a very small molecular structure that allows for optimal seed and plant absorption of natural signals that encourage optimal germination and overall plant vitality. These are molecules that can achieve results typically only observed from synthetic hormones yet are 100% natural and EDTA free. The Johnston’s team is pleased to be one of Canada’s only early distributors of the TeraCoatTM &TeraSix™ family of products, with access to limited supplies for the 2026 growing season.
Join us for a special webinar to introduce the science behind the products, led by the SixRing™ Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Markus Weissenberger Ph.D, and Senior Lab Manager Alejandra Enriquez Ph.D (see bios below). Attached you will find more detailed information on the TeraCoatTM & TeraSix™ products, and we include a short video that introduces some of the unique science involved.

Logistics Update
Bulk capacity is looking good this week ahead of the spring rush period, shippers should be able to find capacity for most lanes, although South-North may be difficult. While capacity should remain plentiful for the coming weeks, fuel has jumped significantly this week with rates likely to follow.
We have trucks in the below areas next week looking for reloads:
| Equipment | Location | Looking to Get To |
| SuperB Hopper | Vancouver, BC | AB, SK |
| SuperB Hopper | Alberta | SK, MB |
| SuperB Hopper | Saskatchewan | Coronach, SK |
| SuperB Deck | Saskatoon, SK, Regina, SK | Anywhere |
Due to the conflict in the Middle East and the associated rise in fuel prices, expect rate increases across the board on all transportation both inland and ocean. Depending on vessel access to the Strait of Hormuz, it is likely that we see additional tightness on container equipment in the near future as well with longer transit times.
If you have bulk, dry van, deck or container freight to move, please reach out to logistics@johnstonsgrain.com for a competitive quote!
