With depressed commodity prices and tight budgets, farmer purchasing on 2026 crop protection needs has been slow through the fall and into the new year. To date, farmers have made the right choice by purchasing Nitrogen rather than crop protection as Nitrogen prices have been rising while chemical prices have been flat. At Johnston’s, we have not been sounding any alarms on crop protection purchasing as we understand the situation on many farms in Western Canada. However, due to deferred farm purchasing on chemical, we can see some bottlenecks coming between now and seeding. Deferred ordering from our overseas manufacturing partners is going to put their factories at or beyond their production capacities on these pre-burn and in-crop chemical products.
