OPENING COMMENTS:
Johnston’s Regenerative & WEED-IT Canada
The team at Johnston’s Regenerative has been running WEED-IT demos steadily in SE Alberta for the last two to three weeks. The result of these demonstrations has been several pending sales and two completed rental agreements. 160 acre demonstrations are free and we rent the demo unit to interested clients for $8/acre. We have additional rental availability this fall. The demo unit will be in the Medicine Hat, AB to Leader, SK area for the next 1-2 weeks.
The performance of this spot spraying technology is unmatched in the market and wont be matched anytime soon. Chlorophyl detection technology is the proper way of doing spot spraying and this type of technology is unique to WEED-IT. The technology is so effective that nearly every demo creates a serious sales and/or rental lead.

Book demos and rentals through Travis Albrecht; Call or text: 1.403.502.6332

From our first rental customer, Glen Ebels, in the Medicine Hat, AB area:
“The WEED-IT demo unit ran flawlessly for me. The operating system is intuitive and user-friendly. I’ve never operated this unit before but after a 160 acre demo I was able to spray 1240 more acres on my own with no issues. The new DASH screen in the WEED-IT demo unit is impressive. The 10”x10” grid mapping for spot spray application and crop density will become powerful agronomy tools on my farm.” – Glen Ebels
After reviewing the data from the DASH system, we’re able to determine that Glen saved anywhere from 73-81% on chemical usage and 76-83% on area sprayed, a huge cost savings. But there are hidden cost savings and additional benefits to using WEED-IT as well…

  • Fewer idling hours during filling which saves on sprayer depreciation and water hauling costs.
  • Less chemistry on the soil affecting soil biology and future crop yields.
  • And finally, the ability to spray out more effective actives that are not affordable in a broadcast application, allowing better weed control and better weed resistance management.

Managing Glyphosate Resistant KOCHIA

Kochia in Western Canada is now widely resistant to glyphosate (Group 9), with recent surveys showing 78% resistance in Alberta and 87% in Saskatchewan. Nearly all Kochia in the Prairies is also resistant to Group 2 herbicides. This aggressive tumbleweed is highly invasive; a single plant can produce up to 15,000 seeds, allowing it to spread rapidly across fields through wind, water, and soil transmission.

To effectively manage Kochia and slow resistance, never apply glyphosate alone. Always tank mix with other modes of action during pre-seed or fall burn-off. This approach improves control of resistant weeds and helps prevent further glyphosate resistance.

We offer a range of effective tank-mix partners to help you control Kochia and other hard-to-kill weeds, including Carfentrazone 240, Sulfentrazone 480, 2,4-D Ester 700, and Dicamba.

Call us today to find the right tank mix strategy for your operation!
Please note: Kochia complaints from glyphosate-only applications are not eligible for warranty claims.

From the logistics team: Freight & Ocean Update

Carrier capacity continues to tighten in Mid-September and while shippers should not have issues covering most lanes for spot movement. It is recommended to start booking out a little further out when possible to reduce the chance of being caught without a truck when movement begins in earnest.  Shippers should expect bulk rates to increase slightly in FH October as capacity starts to tighten, historically we have seen these increases continue through December.  This period typically coincides with increased fuel costs which combined with tight carrier capacity leads to rate increases across the board.  We are currently booking into New Crop and are ready to move loads in AB, SK, MB, BC as well as MT, ND & Idaho! Let us know if you have bulk, dry van or flatbed cargo to move.

We have trucks in the below areas next week looking for reloads:

EquipmentLocationLooking to Get To
SuperB HopperVancouver, BCAB, SK

SuperB HopperLethbridge, ABSK, MB
SuperB DeckSaskatoon, SKAnywhere

Trans-pacific ocean rates continue their downward trend despite renewed trade talks between China & the United States.  If you have anything to bring over from China or East Asian origins, the next few months is definitely a great time to do so as without a firm trade deal and a large increase in container traffic it is unlikely that rates increase in the latter part of the year.
