Prairie Precipitation & 7-Day Farming Forecast Update

Alberta

Recent moisture conditions across Alberta remain mixed. Northern and central regions have generally benefited from improved moisture levels, while portions of southern Alberta continue to trend drier than normal. Current agricultural moisture reports indicate soil moisture reserves are variable heading into early crop emergence.

7-Day Forecast

  • Warm temperatures continue through Friday with scattered thunderstorm activity.
  • A significant moisture system is expected Sunday into Tuesday, bringing widespread rainfall across much of the province.
  • Central and southern growing regions could receive meaningful totals that improve topsoil moisture and aid germination.
  • Cooler temperatures early next week may temporarily slow crop development but will reduce evaporation stress.
  • Producers should monitor spray windows closely due to shifting winds and storm risk.

Key Watch:
Heavy rainfall potential Sunday through Monday may create short-term field access issues in low-lying areas.

Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan saw highly variable precipitation over the past two weeks. Several regions received useful rainfall and mixed precipitation, though some western and south-central areas remain moisture deficient. Seeding progress has slowed in areas impacted by wind and intermittent precipitation.

7-Day Forecast

  • Warm and windy conditions dominate through Friday.
  • Thunderstorm chances increase Friday evening and continue intermittently into early next week.
  • Eastern and northern regions are favored to receive the highest precipitation totals.
  • Western Saskatchewan may continue to miss heavier rainfall bands, maintaining moisture concerns.
  • Soil temperatures remain favorable for emergence, though strong winds may impact herbicide timing.

Key Watch:
Localized thunderstorm activity may create uneven rainfall distribution across the province.

Manitoba

Manitoba conditions remain generally favorable with several regions carrying adequate surface moisture reserves. However, southeastern areas are trending drier than average. Provincial ag-weather monitoring continues to show strong variability in precipitation coverage.

7-Day Forecast

  • Warm and mostly dry conditions continue through the weekend.
  • Scattered showers and thunderstorm activity develop early next week.
  • Southern Manitoba may receive moderate rainfall totals beneficial for recently seeded crops.
  • Humidity and warmer overnight lows will support rapid emergence where moisture is sufficient.
  • Winds may strengthen periodically, especially in southwestern regions.

Key Watch:
Moisture stress could begin developing in lighter soil zones if forecast precipitation underperforms next week.
