New Crop Yellow Peas: Alberta
New crop yellow pea demand is beginning to emerge, with active buying interest for August–September movement across parts of central and southern Alberta. Buyers are currently seeking #2 or Better yellow peas that have been desiccated using Diquat creating an opportunity for growers who are planning ahead.
If your desiccation program includes glyphosate, don’t worry, you still have marketing options! This buyer is able to purchase glyphosate-desiccated peas, although they they will be subject to a modest price discount compared to diquat-desiccated product.
With desiccants becoming increasingly difficult to source this season, planning ahead can make a meaningful difference. At Johnstons Grain, we’ve secured a limited supply of Diquat at $9.49/L so you can stay ahead of the rush rather than scrambling at the last minute. If you’re looking to maximize the value of your yellow peas while ensuring your desiccation program aligns with buyer requirements, reach out to the Johnstons Grain team today. We’re here to help you develop a marketing and desiccation strategy that puts you in the strongest possible position for harvest.

Every spray application matters. To help ensure your grain meets Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) requirements in domestic and export markets, always read and follow the product label, including application rates, crop staging, pre-harvest intervals, tank-mix directions and all other label requirements. Good stewardship, accurate record keeping and proper application timing are essential for maintaining market access and protecting the reputation of Canadian grain. Before every application, visit Keep it Clean at www.keepitclean.ca for the latest best management practices and stewardship resources.
