Prairie Harvest Outlook 2026

Across the three Prairie provinces, the 2026 harvest is shaping up to be a later-than-normal start, particularly for the major spring cereals and oilseeds. Saskatchewan and Alberta are both running materially behind their historical harvest pace, while Manitoba is showing good progress in winter cereals but remains highly variable depending on rainfall.

The next stretch of weather will be increasingly important. Warm temperatures, sunshine, lower humidity and drying winds could quickly accelerate crop maturity and harvest activity, particularly in southern Alberta and Saskatchewan and across Central and Eastern Manitoba. Field peas, lentils, winter cereals and early barley will continue to lead the initial push, with spring wheat, oats and canola expected to become increasingly available as we move toward the end of August and into early September.

From a grain marketing perspective, new-crop supplies are beginning to enter the pipeline, but volumes remain relatively limited. As harvest expands, buyers will begin getting a clearer picture of yield, test weight, protein and overall quality, which should help establish the direction of regional basis levels and nearby demand through September.

Protect Your Crop & Your Market Access

Every spray application matters. To help ensure your grain meets Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) requirements in domestic and export markets, always read and follow the product label, including application rates, crop staging, pre-harvest intervals, tank-mix directions and all other label requirements. Good stewardship, accurate record keeping and proper application timing are essential for maintaining market access and protecting the reputation of Canadian grain. Before every application, visit Keep it Clean at www.keepitclean.ca for the latest best management practices and stewardship resources.
