USDA WASDE Update – February 2026
The latest USDA WASDE report delivered a fairly neutral tone overall, with limited changes to U.S. balance sheets but notable shifts in trade flows and global production.
Wheat
The 2025/26 U.S. wheat outlook remains relatively steady this month. Supplies are unchanged, but domestic use was trimmed slightly due to lower food use as reported in the latest Flour Milling Products report. Exports remain unchanged. U.S. ending stocks are projected at 931 million bushels, up 9% from last year and the largest carryout since 2019/20.
Globally, the wheat picture shifted slightly. World supplies edged lower due to smaller beginning stocks and production declines in Turkey and Mongolia, although Argentina offset some of that with a record 27.8 MMT crop. Global trade increased, driven largely by stronger exports from Argentina and Canada, while EU exports declined. World ending stocks dipped slightly but remain at a five-year high.
Takeaway: Ample global wheat supplies continue to cap upside price potential despite steady U.S. pricing.
Corn
U.S. exports were raised 100 million bushels to 3.3 billion, reflecting strong sales and shipments through January. Foreign demand remains firm, with shipments during the September–January period expected to exceed 1.3 billion bushels. With no change to production and higher exports, U.S. ending stocks were reduced 100 million bushels to 2.1 billion.
Globally, coarse grain production is essentially unchanged. Foreign corn production saw small adjustments — Mexico slightly lower, EU slightly higher. Global corn ending stocks were trimmed to 289 MMT, down 1.9 MMT from last month.
Takeaway: Strong export demand is supportive, but overall global supplies remain comfortable, limiting aggressive price rallies.
Soybeans
The U.S. soybean balance sheet was unchanged this month. Globally, however, production increased. Brazil’s crop was raised 2 MMT to 180 MMT on higher yields and expanded acreage. Paraguay production was also increased. Global crush rose due to strong meal demand, particularly in the EU. China is reportedly considering increased U.S. soybean purchases, though global import demand overall remains steady. If China increases U.S. buying, exports may shift among destinations rather than increase overall global demand.
Global soybean ending stocks rose to 125.5 MMT, primarily due to larger Brazilian supplies.
Takeaway: South American production continues to weigh on the global soybean market, keeping supplies comfortable.
Overall Market Implication
- Wheat remains pressured by large global inventories.
- Corn demand is strong, particularly exports, offering some underlying support.
- Soybeans continue to face competition from large South American crops.
Currency remains an important factor. A firm USD supports CAD-equivalent pricing, even when U.S. futures remain steady.
Johnstons Connected Trading Platform
The Johnstons Connected platform continues to demonstrate its value for both buyers and producers—most recently for corn growers in Manitoba. Since the start of the year, and especially over the past month, the Target Platform has been working on behalf of farmers, generating offers and successfully executing trades while they focus on other priorities.
Several of these offers were above market, and by listing them on the platform, they gained significant exposure—creating strong results for all parties involved. We currently have the following grain on the platform for sale:

Impending Gopher Season
As we approach spring, timing is critical when it comes to managing gophers. These pests emerge from hibernation early in the season and begin breeding shortly after, meaning early, proactive control can significantly reduce in-crop pressure later on.
If spending long days shooting isn’t practical or efficient, there’s another effective option. Our rolled zinc phosphide bait is a proven solution and remains one of the most reliable control tools available since the loss of strychnine. We have ample supply available for pickup or can coordinate delivery with your next chemical order.
If you have field access, now is the time to scout and act—before breeding begins and populations expand. We are currently offering 22 kg bags at $179 per bag. For more information or to place an order, please reach out to your trusted broker at Johnstons Grain: 1.844.324.7778
