Looking Ahead to the 2026 Winter Olympics
The 2026 Winter Olympic Games are set to take place in Milan–Cortina, Italy, with the Opening Ceremony scheduled for February 6, 2026. As always, the Winter Games represent one of the largest global sporting stages, and expectations are high for Team Canada across multiple disciplines.
For Canadians, hockey remains the marquee event. The 2026 Olympics mark a highly anticipated return to a best-on-best men’s hockey tournament, featuring NHL players for the first time since 2014. Canada will enter the Games as a perennial contender, aiming to reclaim gold against strong competition from traditional rivals such as the United States, Sweden, and Finland. With elite talent expected on the roster, Canadian hockey fans can look forward to high-intensity, world-class competition.
On the women’s side, Canada’s national team continues to set the global standard. Fresh off sustained international success, Team Canada will once again be a gold-medal favourite.
Beyond hockey, Canada is expected to be competitive across several winter sports, including speed skating, alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, and snowboarding, reinforcing the country’s reputation as a winter-sport powerhouse.
As the countdown to Milan–Cortina continues, the 2026 Winter Olympics promise to deliver unforgettable moments, none bigger for Canadians than the pursuit of Olympic gold on the hockey rink… so long as it gets built in time…
