Opening Comments

Manitoba AG-Days
Johnston’s Grain will be attending Manitoba Ag Days, taking place January 20–22 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Join us in the City Square Exhibition Hall at booths 403–404 to connect with our team and learn more about how we support producers and ag businesses. We offer services in grain brokerage, Johnstons Connected, post-patent crop protection solutions, regenerative farming practices, and semi-truck tires. Stop by to talk markets, explore new opportunities, and see how Johnston’s Grain can add value to your operation. We look forward to seeing you there.

Tariff Free Yellow Peas
Canadian yellow pea prices are expected to firm modestly as restored access to the Chinese market pulls supply out of the domestic system and supports improved demand. The extent of any price increase will depend on how quickly export shipments resume and the volume China ultimately purchases. That said, a rapid return to pre-tariff highs is unlikely in the near term, as India’s tariffs remain a headwind, global supply and stock levels continue to influence pricing, and trade flows will take time to fully re-establish after buyers sourced alternatives elsewhere. Still, the announcement brings increased confidence and predictability to the market, helping reduce volatility and the risk discount that weighed on prices through 2025. Overall, prices should recover some lost ground into 2026, though they may initially remain below pre-tariff levels as global fundamentals continue to sort themselves out.
