Prairie Harvest Overview
Harvest across the Prairie provinces is effectively complete, with only a few late-seeded or specialty crops remaining in the field. Favorable weather through early October supported steady progress in most areas, although scattered rainfall, frost, and localized snowfall caused temporary delays. Overall, all three provinces are ahead of their respective five-year averages, marking one of the most efficient harvest seasons in recent years.

Alberta
Alberta’s harvest reached 96% completion, advancing 18 points over the past two weeks and exceeding the five-year average of 93%. The South, Central, and North East regions each sit at 96% complete, while the North West and Peace regions are slightly ahead at 97% and 98%. Dry peas are finished, with nearly all spring wheat, barley, and oats harvested. Canola is 92% combined, well above the provincial average for this time of year.

Sskatchewan
Saskatchewan is also nearing the finish line, with 98% of crops combined. Rain and light snow in mid-October briefly slowed progress, particularly around Strasbourg, which recorded 52 mm of precipitation. Canola is 98% harvested, mustard 95%, and other late crops such as chickpeas, flax, and soybeans range between 83–92% complete. Most cropland and hayland moisture levels are rated as adequate, though some regions report short conditions. Producers are now focused on post-harvest work, fertilizer application, and preparing livestock operations for winter.

Manitoba
In Manitoba, harvest progress reached 93%, up six points from the previous week despite challenging weather that included wind gusts over 60 km/h and heavy precipitation in parts of the northwest. Barley and oats are nearly complete at 99%, with canola and dry beans at 96%, and soybeans at 90%. Grain corn and sunflowers are the last major crops still in progress. Yields have been generally strong — spring wheat averaging 60 bu/ac, barley up to 110 bu/ac, and canola around 45 bu/ac — though wet harvest conditions have affected cereal quality in some regions. Livestock producers are moving animals off pasture, securing feed supplies, and preparing for winter feeding programs.

Summary
Prairie producers have made excellent progress this fall. Despite intermittent weather challenges, harvest is largely complete across all three provinces, with yields holding near or above long-term averages. Attention now turns to fall fieldwork, fertilizer application, and winter preparation across the region.

Fall Soil Sampling Program

We’re currently running our fall soil sampling program and our team are on the ground pulling samples in Alberta and Western Saskatchewan. After soil sampling, we send sample to the Croplands Analytics lab in Tofield, AB for a Full Spectrum Analysis. And, if you’re willing to fill out a 2025 fertility questionnaire our team will return you an Advanced Fertility Recommendation designed to lower your crop input costs and rehabilitate challenging soil conditions, all the while maintaining or increasing yield. Through the use of our novel crop input products like vermicastings biology from Annelida, activated Calcium from Croplands Solution, and Humic Substances from BlackEarth, we’re able to make a low-cost and high-impact remediations to your soil.

Many of you will remember Dr. Karthi Narayanan from our 2025 Soil Health Events. If you attended one of these events, you will remember the value that Full Spectrum Analysis and Advanced Fertility Recommendations offer to your farm. We deployed our Advanced Fertility Recommendations on over 1,000,000 acres of crop and hay this year and the results have been outstanding. We were able to reduce several farms crop input bills by $25-$50/acre without sacrificing any yield and while making a lasting investment in soil health. Many of these farms also experienced large yield increases

How to participate:

  1. Send soil samples to Cropland Analytics (Dr. Karthi’s Lab) – 9068 51st Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 5X4.
  2. Submit your fertility program.
  3. Receive a custom review from Dr. Karthi and his team.

💲 $120/sample
🎁 Bonus: Submit both your sample and fertility form by Nov. 15 for a chance to win a FREE Rhyz Seed Enhancement Kit (valued at $1,250).

We’re here to complement your agronomist, not replace them, bringing added focus to soil biology and regenerative outcomes.
