Green Lentils: Global Update
Global green lentil markets are facing downward pressure due to a significant oversupply. Major producing countries, including Canada, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Turkey, have all increased production, creating heightened competition and weaker prices.
Canada, the world’s largest green lentil exporter, is expected to harvest around 11.15 million metric tonnes this year; a 65% increase from 2024, driven by favorable weather, expanded acreage, and higher yields. Russia and Kazakhstan are also seeing larger crops, while Turkey reports a 38% production increase.
Demand remains muted, particularly in key import regions such as India, the Middle East, and North Africa. Import duties in India and low buying interest in countries like Turkey and the UAE are limiting trade activity. As a result, few long-term contracts are being secured, and carry-over stocks are unlikely to decline quickly, keeping prices under pressure.
While top-quality green lentils still command higher prices, even premium grades are feeling the market strain. Overall, sentiment among market participants is cautious, with little optimism for a near-term recovery.

Fall Soil Sampling Program
We’re currently running our fall soil sampling program and our team are on the ground pulling samples in Alberta and Western Saskatchewan. After soil sampling, we send sample to the Croplands Analytics lab in Tofield, AB for a Full Spectrum Analysis. And, if you’re willing to fill out a 2025 fertility questionnaire our team will return you an Advanced Fertility Recommendation designed to lower your crop input costs and rehabilitate challenging soil conditions, all the while maintaining or increasing yield. Through the use of our novel crop input products like vermicastings biology from Annelida, activated Calcium from Croplands Solution, and Humic Substances from BlackEarth, we’re able to make a low-cost and high-impact remediations to your soil.
Many of you will remember Dr. Karthi Narayanan from our 2025 Soil Health Events. If you attended one of these events, you will remember the value that Full Spectrum Analysis and Advanced Fertility Recommendations offer to your farm.
