Grain Movement & Market Outlook
Prompt grain movement across much of the agricultural sector has slowed considerably, with logistics and transportation availability becoming increasingly constrained in recent weeks. Most current buyer demand is concentrated in November and December, while January and later delivery windows are receiving growing interest as buyers look to secure supplies further into 2027.
This year’s market has continued to favour proactive marketing over reactive selling. Despite advancing nearly three months through the marketing calendar, many commodities remain within relatively unchanged pricing ranges, offering limited reward for holding inventory without a defined marketing strategy.
With nearby movement opportunities becoming increasingly limited, producers are encouraged to evaluate forward contracts, secure delivery windows and assess the carrying costs associated with holding grain into the new year.
The key takeaway: Timing and logistics are proving just as important as price. Producers who plan ahead and remain flexible with delivery schedules may be better positioned to capture opportunities as buyer demand shifts further into 2027.
Have Grain to Market?
Johnstons Grain continues to work with buyers and producers across Western Canada, sourcing grain and identifying opportunities across multiple markets.
