Saskatchewan Harvest Report
Saskatchewan’s harvest continued to progress slowly over the past week, as rain, thunderstorms, cool temperatures and persistent early-morning humidity limited field activity across much of the province. Harvest is now approximately 4% complete, with most activity focused on early-seeded pulse crops and spring and winter cereals. Many crops have yet to reach maturity, and producers are looking for warmer, drier conditions to accelerate development and open a larger harvest window.
Rainfall was significant in some areas, with Browning receiving 115 mm, while Enniskillen and Coalfields each recorded more than 100 mm. The moisture helped improve topsoil conditions slightly, with cropland currently rated 2% surplus, 54% adequate, 37% short and 7% very short.
Harvest progress varies considerably by region. The southwest leads at 9% complete, while the east-central region trails at approximately 1%. Winter cereals are among the furthest advanced, with 44% of fall rye and 33% of winter wheat harvested. Triticale leads the spring cereals at 37% complete. Pulse harvest is also underway, with field peas at 18% and lentils at 13% complete.
While additional moisture has been welcomed in some areas, producers continue to manage crop damage associated with dry conditions, disease pressure and insect activity, while gophers remain a concern in certain fields. Looking ahead, warmer temperatures and a stretch of dry weather will be key to advancing crop maturity and allowing harvest activity to gain momentum across Saskatchewan.

Delayed harvest conditions have created some tighter nearby feed coverage, with feeders looking to secure short-term tonnes while they wait for more new-crop supply to become available. This has helped keep some support under the feed market in the near term.
Over the next few weeks, we should start to see a larger portion of the local barley crop come off. Hopefully, yields and quality are strong and we see good volumes make their way into the feed market. As harvest progresses and availability improves, we’ll be watching closely to see how that additional supply impacts pricing and nearby demand.
For the time being, barley continues to price at a slight advantage to corn in many areas, keeping it an attractive option for feed buyers. Freight, location, quality, and timing will continue to play an important role in determining the best-value option.
